Executive Summary
Pasig City has been identified as the city with the worst bottlenecks in the Philippines (MMDA, 2019). Not only does the city host the most congested areas in the Philippines, but also the worst ones too. While the Philippines still follows lockdown protocols advising citizens to stay indoors as much as possible, city residents and daily commuters can still experience heavy traffic everyday in Pasig City. Pop-A-Wheelie was born as a response where users can download a smartphone app that allows them to rent an e-bike for the whole day in Pasig City. Pop-A-Wheelie aims to help reduce the heavy traffic problem found in Pasig City by presenting e-bikes as an alternative method of commuting. The target market that Pop-A-Wheelie wishes to appeal to are students and office workers who commute everyday for school or work in Pasig City. There are other services similar to Pop-A-Wheelie, but what makes it unique is that it offers e-bikes for rent at a cheap price. Pop-A-Wheelie will be promoted through digital marketing on various platforms. Over the next 5 years, Pop-A-Wheelie aims to expand its influence outside of Pasig City while still being affordable.
Concept
Pop-A-Wheelie was made by the research group’s observation from their experiences and from day to day commuter’s experiences. With commuters either having problems with traffic and arriving late at work or school, another problem is that there are no available transportations for them in some instances. This concept was inspired by the mixture of “Grab” and rental bikes where it would be a better alternative for them with a tap on the screen it would give them the closest location for the consumers to rent at ease. This is an innovation for an alternative for transportation and bike rentals, since the product will provide a battery from the bike that is powered by kinetic energy, this will be charged by the motion of pedaling the bike and in return it charges the battery to give power to the bike or charge devices such as phones and ipads.
Location
The research group would like to establish the presence of Pop-A-Wheelie in Pasig City because it has been identified as the city with the worst bottlenecks in the Philippines (MMDA, 2019). The city is the host to not only the most number of bottleneck areas in Metropolitan Manila, but also to the worst ones (Laurei, 2019). While the Philippines still follows strict lockdown protocols advising citizens to stay indoors as much as possible, city residents and daily commuters can still experience heavy traffic everyday in Pasig City. Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto believes that the efforts of the MMDA to reduce traffic was one of the reasons that greatly increased the heavy traffic issue due to the strict implementation of both the provincial buses ban and strict yellow-lane policy for buses
If the option of e-bikes were to be presented to the public as an alternative means of transportation for Pasig City, then heavy traffic could be reduced, or quite possibly eliminated. More specifically, the group wishes to first establish the business’ influence on roads from Green Park Village subdivision leading to Eastwood City via Circulo Verde. The reason the group chose this area in order to spread the business’ influence is the roads leading to C5 are always filled with both private and public vehicles when rush hour begins. If the research group implements Pop-A-Wheelie to roads like Calle Industria and Caruncho Road which lead to C5, then they will gather data to see if the mobile app e-bike rental service can reduce the heavy traffic. The research group will then expand the effective area of the mobile app further from the initial area.
Execution
Pop-A-Wheelie is developing an app with the goal of utilizing e-bikes to reduce traffic. The business plans to test the traffic in Pasig City's Barangay Bagumbayan and the area between Green Park and Eastwood City via Circulo Verde to see how e-bike traffic moves through the area.
Financing
To finance the business for the company, the researchers will provide firstly their personal savings to invest in the business and provide their capital, a contribution would also partake from friends and family. Bank term loans is another way to finance in the business since the company maintains a good credit standing, the research group will borrow an amount of money from the bank upfront and in return pay back the money with certain interest depending on the interest rate. The researchers also plan to gain partnerships with different companies to furthermore expand the business. The app is similar to grab where anyone can access it for free, but there are exclusive monthly memberships within the app where they will gain certain promo’s and exclusive coupons within a monthly pay.
